18 Years of Malcolm: A Cair Journey Worth Celebrating
This year, we’re proud to celebrate an incredible milestone: Malcolm’s 18th year with Cair! From the days of leaky roofs and manual clock-ins to digital systems and custom-built workspaces, Malcolm has been right there, helping us grow, adapt, and innovate every step of the way.
From Humble Beginnings
When Malcolm first joined, Cair was based in a much smaller unit, just around the corner from where we are now. “As the business grew, there were machines squeezed in everywhere. Everyone was packed in!” he recalls. The space became so full (and heavy!) that the floor eventually had to be reinforced.
Moving On Up!
The move to a larger unit marked a big turning point. But it wasn’t just a case of turning the key, the building needed some serious TLC. The warehouse had a leaky roof, the insulation needed upgrading, and we even had to put up gazebos to protect the equipment from the rain! And who could forget the bright pink wall from the building’s previous life as a bathroom showroom? “Lovely colour” we joked, but it didn’t quite fit with our brand, you know we love our orange!
Old School to Digital
In those early days, we kept things simple, including the clock-in system. “It was a board on the wall,” Malcolm says. “For fire drills, someone had to grab it and take it outside!” Fast forward to today, and we’ve embraced digital systems that keep operations smoother and safer.
Growing the Cair Family
As the company grew, so did the team. One of our most heart-warming additions was our Cair family tree, an idea from our General Manager, Alison. Mel, our talented SMD Assembler, painted it beautifully on the wall, complete with photos of the team, past and present.
Malcolm, aka “The Wizard”
Over the years, Malcolm has become known for his problem-solving mind and calm-under-pressure approach. Ask any of his colleagues, and they’ll tell you: “He’s the wizard.” In his own words, “I’m most likely to be… in diagnostic mode.” A fitting quote for someone who’s helped guide Cair through both technical challenges and transformative growth.
Here’s to Malcolm!
Malcolm’s dedication, knowledge, and good humour have been a huge part of our story, and we’re so lucky to have him as part of the Cair family. His journey reflects not just the evolution of our business, but the heart and soul of what we do.
Malcolm, from all of us, thank you for 18 amazing years. Here’s to many more!
End.
